From the Newsroom: We’re excited to share a major milestone for GIFT as it continues its festival run.
From a highly competitive pool of submissions from filmmakers around the world, GIFT has been selected as a semi-finalist in two international film festivals:
- AREA51 Underground Film Contest (2026)
- Planet Cinema NYC Film Festival (2026)
This recognition builds on the project’s growing list of awards and selections, further affirming GIFT as a standout entry on the global festival circuit.
A Strong Showing in Competitive Fields
At the Planet Cinema NYC Film Festival, GIFT was selected as a semi-finalist among 429 worldwide submissions, placing it in the top 18% of all entries. The jury, composed of filmmakers and industry voices based in New York City, cited the project as a standout among an exceptionally competitive field.
Meanwhile, the AREA51 Underground Film Contest, a festival focused on bold, boundary-pushing cinema, has advanced GIFT into its semi-final round as part of its April preliminary selections. Organizers described the selected projects as part of an “elite vanguard of filmmakers” pushing the limits of traditional storytelling.
Final results for AREA51 will be announced on September 30, 2026, following additional rounds of evaluation.
Additional Recognition and Awards
The momentum for GIFT extends beyond these semi-final placements.
The film has been named a Nominee at Darkland Film Awards, selected from 714 submissions worldwide and advancing into a final pool of just 213 nominees. Darkland is known for highlighting work that explores psychological depth, thematic complexity, and the darker edges of the human experience, making this recognition a strong alignment with the film’s tone and intent.
Winner
In addition, GIFT was honored at the New York Film and Female Actress Awards (2025), where it received Best Thriller, recognizing both its craft and its impact within the genre space.
Continuing Momentum
Taken together, these honors mark a significant run for GIFT, spanning over a dozen awards, finalist placements, and competitive festival advancement across multiple circuits. The film’s continued resonance with juries in different regions speaks to the strength of its storytelling and execution.
We’re grateful to the festival teams and juries for championing the work, and we look forward to sharing more updates as the next rounds unfold.

Northrup Studios in the News! 4/9/2025
Check out the Sopris Sun article by Myki Jones on Northrup Studios' new feature film, An Aspen Christmas Conspiracy.
Excerpts from "RFV filmmakers create a Christmas-themed rom-com"
Graham Northrup and Laurie Clemens Maier of Northrup Studios recently wrapped shooting for a feature film, “[An] Aspen Christmas Conspiracy,” a rom-com set in Aspen which tells the story of an idealistic social worker and a cut-throat prosecutor who by many mishaps and touches of mystery fall in love. They hope to release the film to audiences in November.
...
The project came about while Northrup was hoping to launch another feature-length project, a supernatural-themed screenplay called “The Pass.” Due to budgeting and time constraints, he returned to the drawing board. Northrup looked at his options for storytelling and felt that Aspen, a place where he taught theater for many years, made the perfect backdrop to the story he would later put in front of a camera.
“I thought, ‘How about I write something easier to produce that I can tap the local talent for? What can I leverage about where I am and who I know that would make an interesting film?’” Northrup said. “I worked in Aspen for many years, and Aspen in the wintertime is gorgeous. Everything in Aspen at Christmas is special. So I thought to write a romantic comedy set during Christmas and then leverage all the production value I can get from shooting there and try to engage as many local artists, performers and technicians as possible.”
